What in the Sam Hill?

First there were three Hills: Jesse, Jimmy and Tracy..............

And then.........

there was Samuel August Hill! Sam was born Thursday, September 10, 2009......a wee little thing compared to his brother Jim at the same age. Welcome to the family, Sam!

Winner - Presidents Cup

Since reading Monique's blog "A day in the life of a Surferwife" where she reestablishes herself as a surferwife and will now add Surf Reports to her blog, I thought maybe it was time for me to also throw in something about golf on the Golf Girls Rule blog! So here it is........this past August you know who won the Presidents Cup, which is a match play tourney against the brightest and the best in the Morgan Run Women's Club. However, a funny thing happened on the way to the tournament. Some of our brightest and best were injured or unable to play so ..... aha......I was pushed to the top of the ladder and competed in the A Flight. I played my hardest during some very tough mental times.....my Mom had been in the hospital twice and in a care facility during the same time that I competed. It took all my focus to stay in the game and still be "there" for Mom but thanks to my ever-present family, I was able to pull it out and come out on top.

And so, the picture and plaque are on the wall.....I have won the A Flight and Maria Hawksworth won the B Flight. However, a final match was played between Maria and I, just for the asterick, as they say. Maria won that so kudos to Maria...she is a worthy opponent!

You belong in the Zoo

It's been forever between blogs.....over six months it seems. I've finished with Passionate in Purple, done Perky in Pink, Wicked in White and am now working on Ravishing in Red......those would be guest days for the Morgan Run Women's Club. So just to get you up to date, the family has also celebrated a bunch of birthdays...Jason's number 7 and now he's losing all his teeth as he grows older...poor thing! Jimmy turned 3 and is talking much more and swimming like a champ; Haley became four years old, entered pre-school and knows all her numbers and letters (lower case and upper case, she says) and the biggest news is Samuel August Hill has joined the family....spitting image of Jimmy.....pictures will follow! September ended with the 90th birthday of my Mom (Aunt Honey, Grandma Honey, et al) which we celebrated with a birthday brunch at Morgan Run with over 90 of Mom's closest friends and family!

So just to take a break, a bunch of us took a walk around the zoo.....at the annual Zoo Walk. The walk is great, getting up early in order to begin the walk at 7:30 a.m. is brutal. The Long/Unruh family are real troupers and don't seem to mind the early wake up calls....Tracy and I have to get Jesse to kick us in our butts to get us moving in the morning but we managed. Jimmy, Sam and Maddie had a great time checking out the animals. We all got tee shirts, which are probably still sitting in the trunks of our cars!

So that's getting us up to speed. More pictures and commentary to follow.....

Passionate in Purple and 3-putting

It's been forever since I've last posted......way back in the snowy weather. It's time to talk about golf again! The Morgan Run girls just had a guest day.....big.....128 girls...that's a lot. Julia and I are the Guest Day Divas this year (a way-cool term for Chairpersons otherwise known as Unpaid Volunteers who work like hell to get everything done correctly and on time)
Everyone was in purple which looked pretty cool on the fairways. Our grounds superintendent Gary even had purple flowers on all the tee boxes. Pretty impressive. We began the morning with a quick continental breakfast, stopped by the first tee for mimosas and a quick picture opportunity. That's our Golf Pro, Gary, on the right hand side, in the feather boa!

I think everyone had a good time....not too many complaints...hey....who would complain....we're golfing, we're not working, we're not totally broke, yet! Next guest day, May 19..Perky in Pink, followed by August's Wicked in White and November's Ravishing in Red. Yeah, there's a theme here.....color! Last year's guest days were Gorgeous in Green, Brilliant in Blue, Mellow in Yellow and Radiant in Red. The color theme has been very successful. I have so many more color ideas: Bitchy in Brown, Bloated in Black, Pukey in Plum, Grumpy in Gray, Outrageous in Orange, Ugly in Umbra (is umbra a color....is it even a word?).

Now back to my golf game......Katie and I recently participated in Partner's Match Play. We were defending our title from last year. We played against some pretty competitive girls but after two days, we advanced to the finals. Katie pulled out some miracle shots; I helped by "halving" some holes. Pretty fun day. Last hole, we needed a win; not a tie. I putted in from off the green. Pretty impressive; but then no one says I'm not humble.

Which brings us to today....played with Dan in Chose Up. I love chose up. But I couldn't putt...just couldn't. Had nine 3 putts....that's pretty much 9 extra strokes added to my score. What a crap game! But tomorrow's another day; another game.

So, how was your day?

Yeti in Big Bear?

Ok, now I'm a bit scared. For a So. Cal. girl, the snow is a whole 'nother world...so imagine my dismay to wake up this morning (still in Big Bear) and find these odd footprints right outside my bedroom door. Certainly not man-made; definitely not animal; doesn't look like huge raindrops. Must be....yes, it's the ellusive yeti that I have been searching for all my life. Right at my backdoor and I slept through the entire encounter.

Papa and his kids

Couldn't let a day go by without posting a pic of Papa and his faves! Jimmy, Haley and Jason joined Papa and family at Fidel's for a birthday celebration for Bob and Grammy Tammy. Nothing better for me than growing old with these urchins. My life is complete.

Kicking it at Big Bear

So we are all here at Big Bear...Jason, Monique, Bob, Haley and yours truly (Grammy Tammy aka Tammy Tammy). The first three spent the day on the slopes, snowboarding and having a blast. Haley and I watched for a while until they decided to take the chair lifts to the higher slopes. We headed back to our little cabin, watched DVD's, colored in coloring books and made some cookies for the great snowboarders.
The three athletes got home just before the snow began falling. As the snow began, Bob took off on a 30 minute run, got home soaking wet and headed for the jacuzzi where Haley, the bathing babe, joined him.
We all ended the evening at Maggio's, eating pizzas and, as you can see above, drinking beers. Snow is still falling. Should look beautiful in the morning.
Home now watching a great show, featuring my personal favorite, Neil Young. Sure hope Dan is home watching it.
Oh, no golf...the course looks like a cross country ski track.

Papa and his hoop

So I've been asked to update my blog and, of course, since I just received from my kids my own Wii Fit, what a great time to blog. Bob set it up and got it running. Jason started breaking all the records, until Monique stepped to the plate (she rocks at the Step Dancing), Tracy does a mean Tightrope and then Bob got off the couch and pretty much rocks at everything. Jesse has a couple records of his own. This Grammy Tammy/Golf Girl just can't figure out the balance angle. I've tried the ski jump dozens of times and Haley says "Not like a snowball, Tammy Tammy". I'm not bad at the Yoga Breathing exercise, however. Well, crap, I can breathe, you know.

But the best is when I return from a day of golfing and board meetings and walk into the Wii Room (aka Living Room) and find Grandpa Dan aka Papa swinging to the Hula Hoop. He waits til the kids leave and then tries to beat all their daily records. He's got everyone beat on the Jogging Run and the little guy in the bubble going down the river but I just love to watch him Hula Hoop.

Postscript: Dan wants me to remind you that the above video does not represent him.....because he does it with five hoops. Who knew?

What would I do without these kids?

I could be reading a book but this is how a Saturday goes....checking out Haley's soccer game, with Jason as the protective big brother and then watching Jim work in his backyard, making sure the new yard goes in according to plan.

Jason is growing up to be the best looking kid and he watches over his little sister so well. What a guy. And he can pretty much beat me at any Wii game.

Jimmy is having the best time as Acting Superintendent on the yard project at his house. He loves his boots! News alert: He is now sleeping in a big boys bed (his crib has been dismantled) and, oh my, peeing on the toilet. How time flies when you are growing from a baby to a toddler.!

Haley is definitely cut out for soccer....she looks so sweet in those pink soccer knee pads...who knew they even made them in that color. But then if they make golf club grips in pink, well, then pink works well in all sports. Way to go, Haley. Way to make Tammy Tammy proud.

Dinner at Tammy Tammys aka T T

So this is how meal time rolls around our house.....first of all, gather the kids together (Haley and Jimmy, in this case); then drag the booster seats into the TV room; turn on the Sponge Bob marathon, serve up cheese sandwiches (grilled for Jim and plain with mayonnaise for Haley) and apple juice and you have a good 45 minutes of uninterrupted peace. (Do not tell their mothers!)

Sounds good to me!

It's a new year.

As we march into this new year of 2009, I thought it a wonderful opportunity to add some new pictures to the blog. You will also note that as a homage to Dad, I've changed the background a bit. Dad, like Sir Edmund Hillary, was a beekeeper in his younger days and although Dad never climbed Mt. Everest, he certainly scaled the heights of our emotions. He was a wonderful dad, husband and grandpa. He only began his duty as Great Grandpa Bud when he left us to perhaps look for the sweet honey of the hereafter. So when you see a bee you will know to address it as Bud the Bee. I do.

Here's a few new pics of those wonderful little guys (and girl) in my life. Haley playing in the rain; Jason happy with his Wii; and Jim with his motorcycle helmet (I think?!)

Happy New Year!
